New Spectacular Modern Homes of Texas Book Features a Dozen San Antonians

A new coffee table book out this month features over 70 modern Texas homes, including a dozen by San Antonians.

Compiled and written by Jolie Carpenter Berry, Spectacular Modern Homes of Texas: A Stunning Collection of Fine Residential Design provides a look at the exterior and interior of each home as well as insight into the designer or architect’s vision for the property.

San Antonio receives its own chapter that features 12 homes by architects and designers including Lake | Flato, Lori Caldwell Designs, John Grable Architects, Craig McMahon Architects and Elizabeth Haynes Architect, among others. Other chapters focus on homes in Austin, Dallas, Houston and the Hill Country/West Texas. Home styles vary from a modern ranch to a high-rise and a minimalist lakefront property but elements of clean lines, large windows and designs that work to fuse the indoors with the outdoors are seen throughout the book.

McMahon’s property, for example, is a modern ranch home in Cordillera Ranch that includes an indoor-outdoor courtyard that acts as the center of the home and features large glass windows and doors. Lake | Flato’s three-story lakefront property features clean lines indoors and out plus strategically placed windows that frame the views outside. Elizabeth Haynes project was a modern oasis in the city that also used clean lines and large glass windows and doors (read more about that home here).
